Planet Thoughts

Planet:

My planet consists of around 80% water, half of it frozen. It's on a complete horizontal axis, so the back side of the planet is in a constant state of winter – always ice, and always in complete darkness. On the other side is perpetual summer, very warm and sunny. The planet's close moon creates intense tides that can create large cliffs when the tide is low.
On the surface, the land masses are mountainous and for most of the time, extremely tall cliffs. The tops of the cliffs are lush with different sorts of plant life and creatures. Large spires come out of the water, the tops identify them as giant types of conch shells. When the water rises, many of them are obscured underwater. Life is abundant in both the land and water on the front side of the planet. The frozen half has very little to possibly no life at all.

has to be a goldilocks planet with similar conditions to Earth

ROUGH
Ocean with big cliffs and mountains next to it. Lush plant life on mountains and cliffs.

how do species interact with the ecosystems around the planet and how has it developed?
think about things like: color of sky, plant colors & what colors they absorb / reflect, moons, tidal functions, seasons & tilts,

- seasons all about tilt of planet and its relation to its star (can erase seasons all together by having no tilt, or have it be very extreme by having the planet at 90 degrees)
-

notes from physics lecture
- cepheid variables (pulsates)
- Planck space
- multiverse
- all elements up to iron on element table
- earth has core of iron and nickel --> provides energy to surface of earth
- CHONPS
- tidal flexing (ex: Europa)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

notes from environmental lecture
- biotic (living) <--> abiotic (non living)
- generation times matter in our world, adaption based on time
- give creatures unique traits

possible life forms:

  • Types of birds to fly from the cliffs and nest on the rocky edges (bigger ones hunt in the ocean, smaller ones either get food from certain plant life on top of the cliffs, or hunt small bugs that live at the bottom of the cliffs)
  • small creatures (for the most part) on top of the cliffs because of the high altitude
    • small predator like a fox, small prey like some sort of ram
  • Can also have a Yak sort of creature to be a larger animal on top of the cliffs
  • Most sentient creature probably lives in cave pockets in the cliffs, around the middle of the top of the cliffs and the ocean below. Not too low so that when the tide rises their homes would be flooded
    • the caves provide protection from rain and outside forces - also helps them sleep in the darkness because daytime is constant
    • they have created contraptions to aid them travel along the sides of the cliffs, their characteristics have to be built to help them do this as well (look at mountain goats)
  • There's probably a creature that takes habitat in the giant conch shells
