Pirate ride questions

Describe reaction:

  • I honestly thought it was pretty cool. I don't remember much from the florida Pirates of the Caribbean ride, but I remember it not being as cool as this one. I really liked how believable the screens with the images were – they were incorporated very well into the ride. I also loved that if felt interactive in parts, such as cannons flying in the water when the two ships were firing at each other. Having components such as these (in which the the things that happen aren't just off to the sides) is an integral part in making the ride unique and fun. The mix between computer and animatronic was also very well balanced
What connections did you make with the work? Discuss elements that you were able to connect:
  • I connected to the work through its fantastical elements. Pirates of the Caribbean is known to have fantastical material in it, but the ride really made use of what the movies showed. For example: the ride depicted mermaids, Davy Jones' crew, the skeleton crew, cursed treasure and more. It brought these things in while also making sense of a story and not making it too overwhelming. Instead it was exciting, making me enthusiastic as to what was to come
What changes would you make to adapt to another medium? What medium? What changes?:
  • To fit another medium, changes would obviously have to be made. Most other mediums aren't going to have the interactive quality that this dark ride has, however it wouldn't be too hard to adapt it into something like a movie or a theater production. A theater production is the medium I would most likely adapt it into – since there can still be interactive qualities in theater, unlike a movie in a cinema. Aside from obvious changes, (like they wouldn't be in a moving cart, instead seated in a still seat) replacing the animatronics with real life actors to play out the scenes is the biggest modification. The idea of the large screen still works very well, and will still play an integral part in telling the story – as it did in the dark ride.
